Eid ul-Fitr - Forgive and Forget
Eid means festivity in Arabic and Fitr means breaking of the fast and so Eid ul-Fitr symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It marks the end of a month fasting and it is the beginning of Syawal where muslims around the world celebrate it with joy and forgiveness. Throughout Syawal as well, muslims will usually visit their relatives and held 'open houses'. Friends, colleagues and neighbours are invited to partake in the festivities and delicious treats, regardless of their race and background.
Diwali - Let There be Light!
Diwali which is derived from Sanskrit means 'rows of light'. It is a very exciting and colourful event. Homes are cleaned to welcome the New Year and windows are opened so that the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, can enter. It is believed that she cannot enter a house which is not lit up, so every household burns special Diwali clay lamps (diyas) to light the way for the goddess, which is why the event is also known as the Festival of Lights.
Eid ul-Fitr and Diwali are 10 of the biggest festivals celebrated in Malaysia. And this year, the Malaysian MARJON students wish to bring the heat of the celebration to the wet and windy Plymouth. On the 18th October 2009, an open house was held from noon till 3pm, where Malaysians across Plymouth, other international students and locals partake in the celebrations. To heat up the festivities, colourful traditional cultural outfits were worn on that day and special dishes like Nasi Beriyani, Nasi Hujan Panas, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, Soto and a whole lot more were served on that day.

Fiqh Musafir is an event specially organised for the new juniors. The objective is to enlighten the new students on how to perform the teachings of Islam in foreign countries. It is also to equip them with the skills needed to survive abroad. Basiccally, this event is to ensure their well-being as and how to cope with their everyday life as Muslim students in UK.when? 1st November 2009, 10.30 am - 4.30 pm
